Madurai

Meenakshi Temple in Madurai (Tamil Nadu) is big, popular and quite old (parts of it are said to be older than 2000 years).

Unfortunately, most of towers where being renovated when we were there, but there was still plenty to see.

Inside the temple: detail of painted ceiling

The bats don't seem to mind the crowds in the temple.

Temple elephant collecting money in exchange for a "blessing" (a pat on the head with its trunk)

Camel making money by letting kids sit on it.

After a visit to the Gandhi Memorial Museum, we went to Tirumalai Nayak Palace from 1636.

Former dance hall.
